Research rounds
From 2006 onwards, more than 167,000 persons participated in one or two research rounds. During these rounds measurements were taken, questionnaires were filled out and biomaterials were collected. In 2017 the last participants will take part in the second research round. We expect to release the first data of this research round during the summer of 2017.
At this moment, it is unclear when the third round will start. The way in which we collect our data and biomaterials needs to be adapted. New technologies will be implemented to increase the efficiency and user-friendliness of the screenings. For instance: more measurements will be taken by participants themselves or will be digitalized. We also intend to use other ways to question participants e.g. through apps or polls. Lifelines will scrutinize the status of their IT-environment and other technical possibilities and innovations, to be able to serve researchers in a more flexible and faster way.
Lifelines basis for valuable research
The Lifelines data and biomaterials are frequently used in state-of-the-art research. About 350 proposals have been offered to Lifelines, which already resulted in more than 100 publications. Several additional studies have been successfully set up. Through all these valuable projects, Lifelines contributes to better prevention, health care and precision medicine. Healthy Ageing is and remains the important focus of Lifelines.
