Changes in Lifelines fees for 2025
We would like to inform you about a change in our rates. In recent years, the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG) and the University of Groningen (RUG) have provided additional financial support to lower the fees for researchers from these institutions. Due to the nationwide budget cuts in higher education this additional financial contribution will not be extended, meaning that from January 1, 2025, the standard partner fees will apply again for researchers from RUG/UMCG. You have also been informed about this by RUG and/or UMCG.

Transition Period
We understand that this may impact the application for research funding and the execution of your projects. Lifelines therefore wants to accommodate researchers from RUG and UMCG who want to start a new project with a transition period. For research teams that submit an application for a new project before April 1, 2025, the old rates will still apply. For projects eligible for extension in the period leading up to April 1, 2025, the old rate will also still apply. The rate change will not affect ongoing projects. Our services and rates for ongoing projects will remain the same. For more detailed information, we refer you to the Q&A below.
Innovation in data collection and sustainable data access
In the coming years, RUG, UMCG, and Lifelines will continue to seek sustainable funding to support the collection and sharing of data and biosamples for research aimed at more healthy years. Moreover, Lifelines will keep investing in innovating our services, such as new forms of data collection and improved service regarding data access (DRE). We will continue to keep you informed about this, especially when it impacts our rates.

Lifelines rates 2025
The partner fee applies to Lifelines shareholders and the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport. Lifelines shareholders are the University Medical Centre Groningen and the University of Groningen. Partner fees are lower than external fees because our partners provide a structural financial contribution to Lifelines.
