Discover it with Lifelines: a unique biobank for more healthy years
Discover it with Lifelines
About Lifelines
Since 2006, Lifelines has been collecting biosamples alongside data to support diverse research. Every 1,5 years, participants complete a questionnaire, and every 5 years, they visit a Lifelines location where a range of biosamples are collected, including blood, urine, and feces. These samples, paired with detailed longitudinal health data and measurements, provide a comprehensive foundation for innovative research. We collaborate with both academia and non-academia in order to enable scientific research.

Dr. Marianna Mirabelli
Elypta, Director of Clinical Development
“The Lifelines cohort study has enabled us at Elypta, a small company based in Sweden, to study the risk of developing multiple cancer types in a presumed healthy population over time, and enabled us to identify the profiles of glycosaminoglycans, or the GAGome, as early indicators of cancer several years before clinical diagnosis. We are grateful to Lifelines for the opportunity to push the boundaries of early cancer detection and to ultimately improve patient outcomes.”

Prof. Frank Chan
Professor in Quantitative Genetics and Genomics, University of Groningen
"Collaborating with Lifelines has been crucial in our goal to improve genetic testing on a population scale on the way towards data driven health care. Our project tackles the challenge of detecting rare or complex mutations that are so often ignored. With Lifelines, we gained valuable experience in how well our versatile sequencing technique performs relative to the current benchmark, demonstrated in no small part thanks to Lifelines’s multigenerational design. We can’t be happier with the fantastic results and this collaboration."
Iris Jonkers
Associate professor Immunogenetics, UMC Groningen
"Together with Lifelines, we were able to set up a large study in a short time to map the prevalence of celiac disease within the northern Dutch population. Lifelines is an active and pleasant discussion partner in the design and implementation of the project. In addition, it is incredibly important that we can rely on a the immense data availability within Lifelines to ask several important research questions.”
